Wild Weasel Tactics Conference - Shaw AFB
In June 2015, a specially painted f-16c was revealed by the 20th fighter wing at shaw air force base in sumter, sc. This aircraft celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 'wild weasels' which were a cadre of specially selected group of us air force aviators needed for newly developed tactics during the vietnam war. They intended to fly into the lure north vietnamese surface-to-air (sam) operators into targeting their aircraft and thus revealing their locations, and in turn the weasels would attempt to destroy the sam sites. the mission earned them a legendary 'ygbsm' motto, still represented on weasel patches to this day.
